Grantmaking

Through its grantmaking programs the Bunnelle Foundation partners with organizations working to improve the quality of life for Georgetown County citizens. Grants address the various focus areas of the foundation's mission: root causes of poverty, basic human needs, positive youth development, promoting economic vitality, and preserving the environment.

While grantmaking programs will evolve over time as community needs and issues change, the Foundation Board has adopted the following funding programs:

Grants for the Common Good

Grants for the Common Good of up to $20,000 per organization are awarded annually on a competitive basis to nonprofit organizations working in any of the Foundation's five focus areas. See the 2012 grant schedule here.

Strategic Initiative Grants

Strategic Initiative Grants are by invitation only. Substantial funding was provided over a six year period ending in 2011 to organizations encouraging positive youth development. Plans for future Strategic Initiative Grants are incomplete at this time.

Institution Specific Grants

To honor Mrs. Bunnelle's commitment to her three "favorite charities," the Foundation established a non-competitive program of annual support for Saint Frances Animal Center, Tara Hall Home for Boys, and Tidelands Community Hospice. Foundation support does not eliminate the need for these organizations to continue to raise money from other sources.
